Cimetidine 400mg

Indication

Cimetidine is an H2-receptor antagonist used to treat peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and conditions causing excess stomach acid secretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It reduces gastric acid production.

Ingredients

• Cimetidine 400 mg

Direction

Adults: 400 mg twice daily (morning and evening) or 800 mg at bedtime. For maintenance, 400 mg at bedtime. Doses should be taken with or after food. Duration as directed by a physician.

Side effects

• Diarrhea
• dizziness
• or headache.
• Gynecomastia or impotence with prolonged use.
• Rare: confusional state (especially in elderly)
• drug interactions.

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment
• dose adjustment may be needed.
• May interact with many drugs including warfarin
• phenytoin
• and theophylline.
• May increase blood prolactin levels
• long
• term use can cause gynaecomastia.
• Consult a doctor if symptoms persist.
• Keep out of reach of children.
