Indication

Isoteen (Isotretinoin) is a retinoid used for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne that has not responded to standard therapies including oral antibiotics.

Ingredients

• Isotretinoin 10 mg

Direction

Adults and adolescents: Usual starting dose 0.5 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses with food. Dose may be adjusted to 0.1–1 mg/kg/day depending on response. Total cumulative dose 120–150 mg/kg. Duration and dosing must be directed by a dermatologist.

Side effects

• Raised liver enzymes
• raised triglycerides.
• Nosebleeds
• photosensitivity.
• Rare: mood changes
• depression
• benign intracranial hypertension.

Precautions

• Absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy — causes severe fetal abnormalities (teratogenic).
• Females of childbearing potential must use two forms of effective contraception for 1 month before

• and 1 month after treatment.
• Do not donate blood during treatment or for 1 month after discontinuation.
• Monitor liver function

• Risk of depression and suicidal ideation
