Indication

Polydexa is a combination ear and nasal drop containing two antibiotics (polymyxin B and neomycin) and a corticosteroid (dexamethasone). It is used to treat bacterial infections and inflammatory conditions of the ear canal (otitis externa) and nasal passages.

Ingredients

• Polymyxin B sulfate 10
• 000 IU
• Neomycin sulfate 3
• 250 IU
• Dexamethasone 1 mg per ml (ear/nose drops)

Direction

Ear: 2–5 drops into the affected ear(s) 2–3 times daily for 5–7 days or as directed. Tilt head to allow drops to penetrate. Nose: 1–3 drops per nostril 2–3 times daily. Follow physician's instructions on duration.

• Skin sensitization or allergic reaction to neomycin
• Prolonged use: superinfection with fungi or resistant bacteria

Precautions

• Do not use if eardrum is perforated.
• Do not use for more than 7–10 days without medical advice.
• Avoid contact with eyes.
• Prolonged use of corticosteroids may increase susceptibility to infections.
• Use with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides (neomycin).
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Use in pregnancy only if benefit outweighs risk.
