Indication
Cefimid (Cefixime) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, pharyngitis and tonsillitis (including Streptococcal), bronchitis, otitis media, and uncomplicated gonorrhea.
Ingredients
- Cefixime 100 mg
Direction
Adults and children over 12 years (or over 50 kg): 200–400 mg per day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Children under 12 years: 8 mg/kg/day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Suspension may be used for younger children. Take with or without food.
Side effects
- Diarrhea
- nausea
- abdominal pain
- Skin rash
- urticaria
- Headache
- dizziness
- Elevated liver enzymes (rare)
- Antibiotic
- associated colitis (rare)
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins (cross
- reactivity possible).
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment — dose reduction required.
- Inform physician of all current medications.
- Complete the full prescribed course.
- Keep out of reach of children.
