Indication
- Anaerobic bacterial infections - Intra-abdominal infections - Pelvic inflammatory disease - Prophylaxis for colorectal surgery - Severe protozoal infections - Bone and joint infections
Ingredients
- Metronidazole
Direction
Administer by slow intravenous infusion over 30 to 60 minutes. Dosage and frequency depend on infection severity and patient weight.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting
- Metallic taste in mouth
- Darkening of urine color
- Thrombophlebitis at injection site
- Headache and dizziness
- Loss of appetite
Precautions
- Avoid alcohol during treatment
- Risk of disulfiram
- like reaction
- Monitor for peripheral neuropathy
- Use caution with liver disease
- History of blood dyscrasias
- Monitor central nervous system toxicity
