Indication
Treatment and suppression of herpes simplex virus infections (genital herpes, cold sores), treatment of herpes zoster (shingles), and varicella (chickenpox)
Ingredients
- Acyclovir 200mg or 400mg
Direction
Herpes simplex: 200mg 5 times daily for 5-10 days. Herpes zoster: 800mg 5 times daily for 7-10 days. Take with plenty of water. As directed by physician.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- headache
- dizziness
- fatigue. Rare: renal impairment (especially if dehydrated)
- confusion
- tremor.
Precautions
- Maintain adequate hydration during treatment. Adjust dose in renal impairment. Start treatment as early as possible. Prescription required.
