Indication
- Reduces the viscosity of thick, sticky mucus in respiratory conditions - Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - Productive cough with excessive viscous mucus - Adjunctive therapy of respiratory tract disorders with mucus
Ingredients
- Carbocisteine 250 mg/5 mL
Direction
The usual adult dose is 750 mg (15 mL) three times daily, reducing as the condition improves; children's doses are lower and based on age. Take by mouth.
Side effects
- Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort
- Diarrhea
- Skin rash
- Rarely
- gastrointestinal bleeding
- Rarely
- severe skin reactions (e.g. Stevens
- Johnson syndrome)
Precautions
- Avoid in active peptic ulceration
- Use with caution in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease
- Some formulations contain alcohol or sugar—check before giving to children and diabetics
- Discontinue if signs of gastrointestinal bleeding occur
