Amlo-Denk 5 mg

Indication

Amlodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker used for the treatment of essential hypertension and for the prophylaxis of chronic stable angina pectoris and vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina. It lowers blood pressure by relaxing vascular smooth muscle and decreasing peripheral vascular resistance.

Ingredients

• Amlodipine (as Amlodipine Besilate) 5 mg

Direction

Adults: the usual initial dose is 5 mg once daily orally, which may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily according to response. Elderly and patients with hepatic impairment: start with a lower dose. Tablets may be taken with or without food. Use as directed by the physician.

Side effects

• Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling)
• Headache
• Flushing
• Dizziness
• Fatigue
• Palpitations
• Nausea or abdominal discomfort
• Gingival hyperplasia (rare)

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to amlodipine or other dihydropyridines
• Contraindicated in severe hypotension
• shock and severe aortic stenosis
• Use with caution in hepatic impairment (dose titration recommended)
• Use with caution in heart failure
• Avoid concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors without medical supervision
• Pregnancy and lactation: use only if the potential benefit justifies the risk
• Keep out of the reach of children
