Paracetamol Infusion 1 g / 100 ml

Indication

Paracetamol intravenous infusion is used for the short-term treatment of mild to moderate pain and for the reduction of fever, particularly in hospital settings where oral administration is not possible.

Direction

Adults and adolescents over 50 kg: 1 g (100 mL) every 4–6 hours IV infusion; maximum 4 g per 24 hours. Adults and adolescents under 50 kg, and children: 15 mg/kg per dose every 4–6 hours IV infusion; maximum 60 mg/kg per 24 hours (up to 3 g/24 h). Administer over 15 minutes. For hospital use under medical supervision.

Side effects

• Nausea

• Hypotension (rare
• with rapid infusion).
• Allergic reactions: rash
• urticaria
• anaphylaxis (rare).
• Severe skin reactions (Stevens
• Johnson syndrome) — very rare.
• Liver toxicity and liver failure with overdose or in susceptible patients.
• Elevated liver enzymes.

Precautions

• For intravenous use only under medical supervision.
• Do not exceed maximum daily dose
• overdose causes severe hepatotoxicity.
• Reduce dose and frequency in hepatic impairment.
• Use with caution in renal impairment
• chronic alcoholism
• and malnutrition.
• Avoid concurrent use with other paracetamol
• containing products.
• Monitor hepatic function in patients receiving long
• term therapy.
• Keep out of reach of children.
