Bisacodyl YSP 5mg

Indication

Bisacodyl YSP tablets are a stimulant laxative used for the short-term treatment of constipation and for bowel cleansing prior to surgical procedures, colonoscopy, or radiological examination.

Ingredients

• Bisacodyl

Direction

Adults and children 10 years and over: 5–10 mg (1–2 tablets) taken orally at night. Take with water; do not crush or chew. Do not take within 1 hour of antacids or dairy products. Children 4–10 years: 5 mg once daily under medical advice.

Side effects

• Abdominal cramps and discomfort.
• Nausea or vomiting.
• Diarrhoea with excessive use.
• Electrolyte imbalance (hypokalaemia) with chronic misuse.

Precautions

• Do not use for more than 5 consecutive days without medical advice.
• Contraindicated in acute intestinal obstruction
• ileus
• appendicitis
• severe dehydration
• or acute inflammatory bowel disease.
• Do not take within 1 hour of antacids or milk — enteric coating may dissolve prematurely causing gastric irritation.
• Prolonged use may lead to electrolyte imbalances and laxative dependence.
• Keep out of reach of children.
