Indication
Coversyl 5 mg is an ACE inhibitor used for the treatment of essential hypertension, symptomatic heart failure, and stable coronary artery disease (to reduce risk of cardiac events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction or coronary revascularisation).
Ingredients
- perindopril arginine
Direction
Hypertension (adults): Initially 5 mg once daily in the morning; may increase to 10 mg once daily after 1 month if tolerated. Heart failure: Initially 2.5 mg once daily; titrated up to 5 mg. Take before food.
Side effects
- Dry persistent cough.
- Headache and dizziness.
- Hypotension.
- Hyperkalaemia.
- Impaired renal function.
- Rare: angioedema (potentially life
- threatening — discontinue immediately).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with history of ACE inhibitor
- induced angioedema.
- Contraindicated during second and third trimester of pregnancy.
- Contraindicated with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
- May cause first
- dose hypotension especially in volume
- depleted patients.
- Monitor renal function and potassium
- especially with concomitant diuretics.
- Dry cough is a class effect — consider switching to ARB if intolerable.
- Keep out of reach of children.
