Indication
Cipro-Denk 500 (ciprofloxacin 500 mg) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections (excluding pneumococcal pneumonia), gastrointestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gonorrhoea, and anthrax prophylaxis.
Ingredients
- Ciprofloxacin
Direction
Adults: 500 mg twice daily (standard infections). Severe/complicated infections: 750 mg twice daily. Uncomplicated UTI: 250 mg twice daily for 3 days. Gonorrhoea: 500 mg single dose. Duration varies by infection type (3–14 days). Swallow whole with water. Avoid dairy products and antacids within 2 hours.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- and diarrhoea.
- Headache and dizziness.
- Skin rash and photosensitivity.
- Tendinitis and tendon rupture (especially in elderly or corticosteroid users).
- CNS effects: insomnia
- agitation
- rarely seizures.
- Rare: severe hepatotoxicity
- QT prolongation.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.
- Risk of tendinopathy and tendon rupture — avoid in patients with previous tendon disorders or on corticosteroids.
- May cause QT prolongation — avoid in patients with QT
- prolonging conditions or drugs.
- Avoid in patients with a history of seizures or CNS disorders.
- Avoid concomitant use with theophylline
- tizanidine (contraindicated)
- antacids
- and iron supplements (reduce absorption).
- Not recommended in children and growing adolescents due to risk of arthropathy.
- Avoid excessive sunlight — risk of photosensitivity.
- Keep out of reach of children.
