Indication

Hypertonic glucose solution for intravenous administration used in the treatment of severe hypoglycaemia, as a caloric supplement, and as a vehicle for other medications.

Administered intravenously by healthcare professionals only. Dose and rate determined by clinical condition and blood glucose levels.

Side effects

• Hyperglycaemia.
• Phlebitis at infusion site.
• Fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
• Hypokalaemia.

Precautions

• For intravenous use only by qualified healthcare professionals.
• Must be diluted if used peripherally in concentrations above 10%.
• Use with caution in patients with hyperglycaemia
• diabetes
• or renal impairment.
• Monitor blood glucose levels during administration.
• Risk of phlebitis with peripheral administration of hypertonic solutions.
• Keep out of reach of children.
