Indication
Lipiget (Atorvastatin 10 mg) is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, and to increase HDL cholesterol in adults with hyperlipidaemia. It is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary heart disease or risk factors.
Ingredients
- Atorvastatin
Direction
Adults: 10 mg once daily, taken at any time of day with or without food. Dose may be adjusted by a physician up to 80 mg/day based on response. Swallow tablet whole.
Side effects
- Muscle pain or weakness (myalgia)
- Nausea
- constipation
- diarrhea
- flatulence
- Headache
- Elevated liver enzymes (transaminases)
- Nasopharyngitis
- Rhabdomyolysis (rare but serious)
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to atorvastatin or any statin.
- Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- May cause muscle pain
- weakness
- or tenderness (myopathy/rhabdomyolysis)
- report immediately.
- Use with caution if taking fibrates
- niacin
- cyclosporine
- or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g.
- itraconazole
- erythromycin).
- Monitor liver function tests before and during therapy.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
- Keep out of reach of children.
