Roperan 10mg

Indication

Roperan (Metoclopramide 10 mg) is a dopamine antagonist antiemetic and prokinetic agent used to relieve nausea and vomiting of various causes (postoperative, drug-induced, associated with chemotherapy or migraine), and to treat gastroparesis and gastro-oesophageal reflux.

Direction

Adults: 10 mg up to three times daily, 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime. Oral, IM, or slow IV as directed. Maximum 30 mg/day. Short-term use only (up to 5 days) due to risk of extrapyramidal effects.

Side effects

• Extrapyramidal reactions (dystonia

• Tardive dyskinesia with prolonged use
• Diarrhea
• Restlessness (akathisia)
• Raised prolactin levels (galactorrhoea
• gynaecomastia)

Precautions

• Do not use for more than 5 days due to risk of tardive dyskinesia and extrapyramidal effects.
• Contraindicated in gastrointestinal haemorrhage
• mechanical obstruction
• or perforation.
• Contraindicated in phaeochromocytoma.
• Avoid in patients with Parkinson's disease.
• Use with caution in the elderly
• higher risk of tardive dyskinesia.
• May cause drowsiness
• avoid driving or operating machinery.
• Do not use concomitantly with other dopamine antagonists.
• Keep out of reach of children.
