Indication
Anticonvulsant used in the management of epilepsy (generalized tonic-clonic and partial seizures), trigeminal neuralgia, and certain affective disorders including bipolar disorder.
Ingredients
- Carbamazepine BP 200 mg
Direction
For oral use. As directed by the physician. Refer to package insert for dosage and other information.
Side effects
- Drowsiness
- dizziness
- ataxia
- nausea
- vomiting and headache may occur.
- Skin rash
- including rare but serious Stevens
- Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
- Blood disorders such as leukopenia
- agranulocytosis and aplastic anemia (rare).
- Hyponatremia
- liver dysfunction and cardiac conduction abnormalities (rare).
- Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately if a severe rash
- fever or signs of blood or liver disorders appear.
Precautions
- Prescription
- only medicine (POM)
- use under medical supervision.
- Inform your doctor about all medicines you take
- many drug interactions are possible (including warfarin
- oral contraceptives
- and other antiepileptics).
- May cause drowsiness or dizziness
- do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
- Stop use and seek immediate medical attention if a skin rash
- fever
- sore throat or unexplained bleeding or bruising occurs.
- Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless directed by a doctor.
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
