Indication
Macrolide antibiotic for bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, such as upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, acute bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia), acute otitis media, skin and soft-tissue infections, and uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis.
Ingredients
- Azithromycin (as dihydrate) 250 mg
Direction
Oral route, as directed by the physician. Usual adult dose: 500 mg (2 tablets) once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg (1 tablet) once daily on days 2 to 5. Take once a day at the same time and complete the full course.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea
- nausea
- abdominal pain or vomiting
- Headache or dizziness
- Rash or itching
- Rarely
- changes in heart rhythm (QT prolongation) or liver problems
- Severe allergic reactions are rare
- stop the medicine and seek medical help immediately
Precautions
- Prescription medicine: use only as directed by a physician
- Do not use if allergic to azithromycin
- erythromycin or any macrolide antibiotic
- Use with caution in liver disease
- heart rhythm disorders (QT prolongation) or myasthenia gravis
- Do not take at the same time as aluminium or magnesium antacids
- Complete the full course even if you feel better
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
- Keep out of reach of children
