Omehit 20 mg

Indication

Proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid. Used for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and reflux oesophagitis, frequent heartburn and acid regurgitation, gastric and duodenal ulcers, prevention and treatment of ulcers associated with NSAIDs, eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Ingredients

• Omeprazole BP 20 mg (as enteric
• coated pellets)

Direction

Oral route, as directed by the physician. Usual adult dose: 1 capsule (20 mg) once daily, preferably in the morning before a meal. Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not chew or crush. Treatment usually lasts 2-8 weeks depending on the condition; for frequent heartburn one 14-day course is typical.

Side effects

• With long
• term use: low magnesium or vitamin B12 levels and increased risk of bone fractures
• Rarely
• serious allergic reactions or severe diarrhoea

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to Omeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors
• See a doctor before use if you have unexplained weight loss
• difficulty swallowing
• vomiting blood or black stools
• Tell your doctor if you have liver disease
• May interact with clopidogrel
• warfarin
• methotrexate and some HIV medicines (atazanavir
• nelfinavir)
• Avoid long
• term use without medical supervision
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
• Keep out of the reach of children
