Indication
Proton pump inhibitor (the S-isomer of omeprazole) that reduces stomach acid. Used for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and reflux oesophagitis, frequent heartburn and acid regurgitation, gastric and duodenal ulcers, prevention and treatment of ulcers associated with NSAIDs, eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Ingredients
- Esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate BP equivalent to esomeprazole 40 mg
Direction
Oral route, as directed by the physician. Usual adult dose: 1 tablet (40 mg) once daily, at least 1 hour before a meal. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew or crush. Healing of erosive reflux oesophagitis usually takes 4-8 weeks; lower maintenance doses may be prescribed afterwards.
Side effects
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- constipation
- diarrhoea or flatulence
- Nausea or vomiting
- Dizziness
- Skin rash or itching
- With long
- term use: low magnesium or vitamin B12 levels and increased risk of bone fractures
- Rarely
- serious allergic reactions or severe diarrhoea
- stop the medicine and seek medical help
- and consult a doctor or pharmacist about any unusual effect
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to Esomeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors
- See a doctor before use if you have unexplained weight loss
- difficulty swallowing
- vomiting blood or black stools
- Tell your doctor if you have liver disease
- May interact with clopidogrel
- warfarin
- methotrexate and some HIV medicines (atazanavir
- nelfinavir)
- Avoid long
- term use without medical supervision
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
- Keep out of the reach of children
