Clprotex Ciprofloxacin 500mg

Indication

Clprotex (Ciprofloxacin 500 mg) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and gonorrhoea.

Ingredients

• Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–750 mg twice daily depending on the severity and type of infection, for 3–14 days as directed by a physician. Take with or without food; avoid dairy products or calcium-fortified juices close to the time of dosing.

Side effects

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• or abdominal discomfort.
• Headache or dizziness.
• Skin rash.
• Tendinitis or tendon rupture.
• Photosensitivity.
• Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea.
• QT prolongation — rare.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones.
• Risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
• especially in elderly patients and those on corticosteroids.
• Avoid in children and adolescents under 18 years (risk of cartilage damage).
• May prolong QT interval
• avoid with other QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Avoid antacids
• iron
• or zinc within 2 hours of dosing (reduced absorption).
• Use with caution in epilepsy (may lower seizure threshold).
• Keep out of reach of children.
