Indication
Treatment of infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci including skin and soft tissue infections, impetigo, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, and pneumonia.
Ingredients
- Flucloxacillin sodium (strength not specified on label)
Direction
Adults: 250–500mg four times daily, taken 30–60 minutes before food. Children under 2 years: quarter adult dose; 2–10 years: half adult dose.
Side effects
- Gastrointestinal disturbances: nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea.
- Skin rash
- urticaria.
- Hepatic dysfunction (with prolonged use).
- Rare: severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to penicillin or other beta
- lactam antibiotics.
- Use with caution in patients with history of hepatic dysfunction.
- Monitor liver function in patients on prolonged therapy.
- Take on an empty stomach (30–60 minutes before meals).
- Complete the full course of treatment.
- Keep out of reach of children.
