Flucloxoma Flucloxacillin

Indication

Treatment of infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci including skin and soft tissue infections, impetigo, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, and pneumonia.

Ingredients

• Flucloxacillin sodium (strength not specified on label)

Direction

Adults: 250–500mg four times daily, taken 30–60 minutes before food. Children under 2 years: quarter adult dose; 2–10 years: half adult dose.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal disturbances: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea.
• Skin rash
• urticaria.
• Hepatic dysfunction (with prolonged use).
• Rare: severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to penicillin or other beta
• lactam antibiotics.
• Use with caution in patients with history of hepatic dysfunction.
• Monitor liver function in patients on prolonged therapy.
• Take on an empty stomach (30–60 minutes before meals).
• Complete the full course of treatment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
