Indication
Lincosamide antibiotic reserved for severe infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including ENT, bronchopulmonary, dental (stomatological), skin, genital, bone and joint, post-surgical abdominal and septicaemic infections.
Ingredients
- Lincomycin HCl monohydrate equivalent to lincomycin base 500 mg per capsule
Direction
As prescribed by a doctor. Adults: 1.5 g to 2 g per 24 hours (500 mg 3 to 4 times daily). Children: 30 to 60 mg/kg per 24 hours in divided doses. Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals with water.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- abdominal pain or diarrhoea
- Serious
- sometimes fatal
- antibiotic
- associated colitis (pseudomembranous colitis) — seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea
- Skin rash
- itching or hives
- Dizziness or ringing in the ears
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist if any side effect is troublesome or persists
- and stop use if an allergic reaction occurs.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients allergic to lincomycin or clindamycin.
- Prescription antibiotic: respect the prescribed doses and complete the full course.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease (especially colitis)
- liver or kidney impairment.
- Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Keep out of reach of children.
