Indication
Penicillin antibiotic for infections caused by susceptible, non-penicillinase-producing organisms, including upper and lower respiratory tract infections, upper and lower urinary tract infections, otitis media, skin and soft-tissue infections, gonorrhea, typhoid fever, non-specific urethritis and gastro-intestinal tract infections.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 500 mg
Direction
Oral route. Adults: 1-2 capsules per dose, 3-4 times a day; do not exceed 4 g a day. Children: daily dose 20-40 mg/kg, divided every 8 hours. Infants under 3 months: daily dose 30 mg/kg, divided every 12 hours. See the package insert for more details and complete the full course.
Side effects
- Diarrhea
- nausea or vomiting
- Skin rash or itching
- Oral or vaginal thrush (candidiasis)
- Rarely
- severe allergic reaction (swelling of face or throat
- difficulty breathing)
- stop use and seek medical help immediately
- Severe or bloody diarrhea during or after treatment: consult a doctor
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to amoxicillin
- penicillins or cephalosporins
- Use with caution in kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed) and in glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis) due to risk of rash
- Complete the full course even if symptoms improve
- Do not exceed 4 g per day in adults
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
- Use under medical supervision
