Rosvalip 20 mg

Indication

Lowers high cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides and raises HDL cholesterol in primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia, together with diet; also used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at high cardiovascular risk.

Ingredients

• Rosuvastatin (as calcium) 20 mg

Direction

As directed by the physician. Usual dose: 5–20 mg once daily at any time of day, with or without food; the 20 mg strength is used when a higher dose is needed (maximum 40 mg daily under specialist supervision). Continue a cholesterol-lowering diet.

Side effects

• Headache
• dizziness
• abdominal pain
• constipation or nausea
• Muscle pain or weakness
• rarely severe muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis) — seek medical help for unexplained muscle pain
• Raised liver enzymes
• increased blood sugar
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.

Precautions

• Do not use in active liver disease
• pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease
• thyroid problems
• a history of muscle disorders
• drink large amounts of alcohol
• or are of Asian descent (lower starting dose may be needed)
• Avoid taking with ciclosporin
• tell your doctor about other medicines such as gemfibrozil
• warfarin or antacids
